14 Triumphs in Winter Classic

24 Oct 14 Triumphs in Winter Classic

{mosimage}The 14 class once again achieved some great results in the recent Bloody Mary Pursuit race. With ideal winter sailing conditions in an 8-10 Knot breeze and bright sunshine it looked good for a 14 result this year right from the start.

With an impressive turnout of 10 boats the class had a great days sailing against 240 other keen dinghy sailors, with 14s taking three of the top five places in the official race. There were a few classes in the race, such as the Foiling Moth and the new Cherubs, which don’t have an official handicap so were ineligible for the official race result.

Rob Greenhalgh and Dan Johnson lead around the first mark in the 14 fleet, and pulled out a good lead down the first run which they held to the end of the race. The fight for second place was much tighter, with the whole fleet arriving at the windward mark together. The race for second place then turned into a three gun shoot out between Andy & Tom Partington, Martin and Neale Jones & Julian Pearson and Nick Martin. This was a great tussle with the Partington’s just getting their nose ahead at the end of the race to take fourth overall.
