02 Jun Garda Riva Cup – Day 1
The fleet of 24 boats launched into a light northerly which built further down the lake unfortunately tempting the race committee to set up for that direction just before the sourtherly appeared. The 14 race finally began in mid afternoon after several 505 recalls. Miost of the fleet opted for the traditional cliff route but in the relatively light for Garda full power twin wiring conditions there was an alternative up the middle which paid off hugely. Andrew Penman & Phil Kennard led from Douglas Pattison and Mark Tait at the first mark. These boats then had a close race for the lead which was eventually won by Pattison & Tait. As the wind died, the rest of the fleet then struggled to fiinish within the 20 minute time limit. The weather isn’t co-operating so it could be another tricky day on the water tomorrow.
